INVESTING

IN COMMUNITY

Our Mission

To strengthen and uplift surrounding communities through grantmaking and mentorship to area nonprofits who support education, wellness and cultural vitality, as well as provide scholarships for local students pursuing education beyond high school.

At a time when nonprofit organizations, many of which provide essential services, are facing funding shortfalls, together we can strengthen our collective communities from Oak Park to Pontiac and make a meaningful impact.

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE

The Birmingham Area Community Foundation (BACF) exists to fill a void in the local community. A community foundation provides a platform for those who want to support the causes and programs that make a positive impact for their friends and neighbors. Birmingham Area Community Foundation will offer the opportunity to invest in the future of Birmingham and its surrounding neighborhoods.

We connect your passions to the causes you care about most and manage the details, so you can focus on making a difference. We also help nonprofits at every stage, with mentoring for those just getting started, to those already making an impact and expanding their reach by providing the support and stability through grant giving they need to strengthen their organizations and broaden their impact in the community. Now is the time to help the Birmingham Area Community Foundation be a source of stability, creativity, and compassion for our community.

LASTING IMPACT

A gift to the Birmingham Area Community Foundation not only supports local nonprofits, but it also ensures your generosity creates meaningful, lasting impact where it’s needed most. Whether you support grassroots nonprofits, scholarships for high school students to further their education, want to establish a fund in your family’s name, or leave a legacy gift in your will, the Birmingham Area Community Foundation is here to help you give in ways that are meaningful to you, and lasting for the community.

Together, we can build a future where every student has the chance to succeed, every nonprofit has the resources to serve, and every act of generosity ripples outward for generations.

At a time when many area nonprofits, many of which provide essential services, are facing funding shortfalls, the ability to award grants to nonprofit organizations locally will make a meaningful difference.

Nonprofit Voices of Support

Kristin Olmedo, CEO United Community Family Services

“United Community Family Services (UCFS) is excited that The Community House (TCH) has chosen to revitalize its nonprofit mission by transitioning to the Birmingham Area Community Foundation (BACF). This new focus on grant giving, scholarship funding, and supporting emerging nonprofits will have an exponential impact—benefiting countless small to mid-sized organizations throughout the Birmingham area, including UCFS in Troy. UCFS has been deeply grateful for the partnership and support of TCH over the years, which has helped us provide food and resources to families facing food insecurity. We are thankful that this legacy of support will continue through the BACF. I wholeheartedly endorse this evolution and look forward to continued collaboration as we all work to strengthen our community during these challenging times for nonprofits.”

Jeff Suzik, Ph.D., Director of Cranbrook Schools

Cranbrook’s Horizon’s Upward Bound program, which prepares underserved Metro Detroit students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education, has been a longtime nonprofit partner with The Community House.

“The launch of the Birmingham Area Community Foundation is a welcome evolution of the mission of The Community House, which has been a stalwart civic institution for more than a century. The renewed purpose and grant giving focus of the Birmingham Area Community Foundation will be of inestimable benefit to existing and new youth, senior and education-centered non-profits, in particular those that are in need of a jolt of initial start-up funding to make their community aspirations a reality. And likewise, for historic non-profits like Cranbrook’s Horizons-Upward Bound program, the continued support will help ensure that this venerable organization’s work remains nimble and contemporary.”
